Spirit Lake School Buys Land

November 23, 2014

The Spirit Lake school board has purchased 30 acres for future growth. Board President Craig Newell told KUOO News the District has been concerned about adjoining property for a while, and inked the deal to buy it last night. The land, south of the school’s wind turbines, is owned by J.C. adn E.M. Farms Limited. The sales price was $300,000- about 10,000 per acre. Newell says there will be many advantages to keeping future school facilities on the same property. School Superintendent Tim Grieves says the purchase will be funded by proceeds of the local option sales tax – which is earmarked solely for land acquisition and building projects and cannot be used for general fund expenditures.
