(Spirit Lake)– A big change is being made to the third floor court room in the Dickinson county courthouse.
Repair work started last week on windows in the 1891 part of the building. Paneling that covered large windows on the west wall of the third floor courtroom was taken off as part of the process. Judges like the windows and the extra light they provide so much they decided to keep them open.
In addition to repairing the windows, crews are also restoring the woodwork around them.
The cost is being covered through a matching grant the county received through the historical society and an insurance settlement received for hail damage from last summer.
Even though they’ve approved repairing the windows and will be looking at possible repairs to the exterior of the building, the board of supervisors still haven’t come up with a long range plan on what to do about the courthouse issue.
