(Spirit Lake)– An investigation is underway into the cause of an explosion and fire that destroyed a construction trailer east of the Spirit Lake High School early Wednesday.
The Spirit Lake Fire Department was called to scene shortly before 2:00 a.m. The side of a truck parked next to the trailer was badly damaged by the fire.
Both the trailer and truck are owned by a Des Moines well drilling firm that is putting in a geo-thermal heating system for the high school expansion. Well drilling equipment inside the trailer was destroyed. Authorities had no dollar estimate on the equipment.
Fire Chief Wally Jorgenson says there was an L-P gas tank about 60 feet from the trailer and that some heaters had been hooked up to it.
No injuries were reported.
The blast was heard by several neighbors who called authorities.
The Spirit Lake Fire Department was at the scene for about an hour.
