Projects Awarded Federal Funding

(Undated)– Some economic development projects in northwest Iowa have been awarded federal funding through the U-S Department of Agriculture Rural Development.

The Northwest Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative in Orange City will get a 200-thousand dollar Rural Economic Development grant to enhance an existing revolving loan fund. The initial loan from the fund will assist the Northwest Iowa Community College in financing the expansion of it’s campus in Sheldon. The 5,800 square foot expansion will include additional classrooms, a computer lab, meeting rooms, student locker storage space and a reconfiguration of the auditorium to seat 120 people.

The Lyon Rural Electric Cooperative in Rock Rapids will receive a 100-thousand dollar grant for its revolving loan fund. It will assist Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital construct a new clinic in George. The 2,500 square foot facility will include three examination rooms, a nurse’s station and space for a future x-ray facility.
