(Spirit Lake)– At a time when many school districts are looking at cutting programs due to budget cuts, Spirit Lake is adding one.
The school board voted Monday to start offering soccer as a junior varsity and varsity sport on the high school level starting in the spring of 2003. The program will operate under a probationary status for two years.
It’s going to cost the district an estimated 26-thousand to 28,730-dollars a year. To help offset that, the Iowa Great Lakes Youth Soccer Association has agreed to provide 20-thousand dollars in the first year and 15-thousand the second.
