(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake School Board Monday evening unanimously adopted the budget for 2002-2003. It has a total asking of slightly more than 5.4 million dollars…with a levy of $10.99 per thousand dollars valuation.
The budget reflects a reduction in staff and services, a reduction in class size, spanish for kindergarten through sixth grade, curriculum and staff development, full-time media specialists and a dean of students at the high school. It does NOT address all of the facility needs, health service staff, computer lab monitors, a reading recovery teacher, additional time for a middle school athletic director, a web master and a district cataloger.
In another budget cutting move, the Spirit Lake school board Monday evening voted unanimously to discontinue Spirit Net…the school-owned internet service. It will be discontinued effective this coming June 1st. Subscribers will be notified via e-mail.
