Local Lawmaker Remains Confident About Livestock Bill

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– A local state lawmaker is still confident some type of feedlot bill can still be passed this session.

State Representative David Johnson of Ocheyedan is one of 12 lawmakers on a panel that’s been studying proposed legislation on the issue. It’s come under fire from operators of small feedlots who say they would be unfairly punished. Johnson agrees the smaller operators need to be considered in anything that is passed.

Lawmakers are under a tight timeframe to get something on the books. The session is scheduled to adjourn at the end of this week.
