(Arnolds Park)– The future of a baseball field just east of highway 71 in Arnolds Park is uncertain.
The field is owned by the Okoboji School District, which no longer uses it. The city of Arnolds Park helps with maintenance.
Okoboji Superintendent Quentin Reifenrath says keeping the field will require a lot of money. The lights and wiring need to be replaced and a new concession stand would have to be built. The old one was destroyed last fall when a car crashed into it.
Instead, Reifenrath says they’re thinking about putting in a new field adjacent to ones in north Milford. That way, he says, they’ll all be centrally located.
Reifenrath says the school board hasn’t set a date to decide the future of the Arnolds Park field. It will continue to be used this summer for little league games.
