Fertilizer Truck Overturns Near Superior

November 23, 2014

(Superior)– A truck carrying liquid fertilizer overturned Tuesday evening on the west side of Superior.

The Iowa State Patrol says 59-year-old Darold Schlueger of Forest City was driving a semi tractor/tanker and was attempting to turn off county road N-16 onto a driveway at Great Lakes Cooperative. Authorities say Schlueger undershot the driveway. The right-side tires slipped off, causing the tractor/trailer to roll on its right side.

The tanker was carrying liquid fertilizer that officials say was non-hazardous and non-flammable. None of it leaked out, but the Superior Fire Department was called as a precaution for a small amount of diesel that leaked from the truck’s fuel tank.

Schlueger sustained minor injuries to his face but refused treatment.

Damage to the tractor/tanker was estimated at 10-thousand dollars.

The incident took place around 8:45 p.m.
