(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors Tuesday voted two to one to adopt a resolution allowing County Treasurer Linda Voss to cancel taxes on buildings that are on leased land whenever she feels the county won’t be able to collect those taxes. The determination would be made on a case-by-case basis depending on economic return.
Supervisor Chair June Goldman cast the lone dissenting vote.
Voss said the process of collecting delinquent taxes can be tedious and costly. She says it simply isn’t feasible to go through the process when only small amounts are due.
Voss said she’s currently dealing with atleast two such cases.
