E-L-C Superintendent Controversy Heats Up Some More

November 23, 2014

(Estherville)– The superintendent controversy in the Estherville-Lincoln Central School District has been turned up another notch.

The E-L-C school board met in special session Wednesday and voted three-to-two to terminate the contract of Doctor Steve Colby effective immediately.

School board President Karen Butler told KUOO news the action stemmed from what she says is a “breakdown in communication that led to a non-workable situation”. Butler says it also stemmed from some alleged irregularities in a contract she says school board members hadn’t been made aware of until just recently.

The board announced last Friday it wasn’t going to renew Colby’s contract.

Supporters of Colby have demanded Butler and a couple of other school board members resign. Butler told KUOO news they’re refusing to do that.

Butler says the board will be meeting again soon to get an interim superintendent on board.
