(Arnolds Park)– A reprieve for the Arnolds Park baseball field.
The future of the field had recently been called into question by the Okoboji School Board. The school district owns the field, which needs new lights, a concession stand and other improvements. School board members were concerned over ongoing expenses to maintain the field. They had hinted at the possibility of selling the field.
Meeting in a special session last evening, the Arnolds Park City Council and Okoboji School Board approved a 28E agreement under which the school district will still own the field, but the city will be responsible for future maintenance.
City officials now want to get a concensus from little league officials to keep using the fields before deciding to spend money to buy new lights and make other improvements. Otherwise, the city has indicated it would maintain the field as a green space.
