(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday approved a recommendation setting salaries for two first deputies in the Sheriff’s Office at 80 percent of what the Sheriff makes. Deputies Rex Ondler and Scott Petersen were appointed to the positions shortly after John Martyr, who held the position solely, resigned to become Spirit Lake Police Chief. By having two officers in the position, Sheriff Greg Baloun said there will be a Chief Deputy on duty around the clock.
The supervisors were also scheduled to ratify an agreement with the bargaining unit representing deputies, jailers and dispatchers in the Sheriff’s Office. But the county’s representative is still reviewing the proposal to make sure it’s what was actually agreed upon.
