(Arnolds Park)– A fire late Friday afternoon heavily damaged a maintenance shed on the southwest corner of Emerald Hills Golf Course in Arnolds Park.
Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire Chief Steve Dulin says the structure was fully engulfed when they arrived. A number of lawn mowers were in the building. Dulin says plastic gas tanks on the mowers ruptured, creating a fireball that engulfed the structure.
Firefighters were successful in keeping the blaze away from a 500 gallon L-P gas tank on the south side of the building.
Damage was extensive. Two lawn mowers were destroyed and a skidloader was heavily damaged. Crews were able to get the rest of the equipment out of the building before the flames got too bad.
Dulin says the cause of the blaze is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall’s Office. He says it started near a mower.
Arnolds Park-Okoboji firefighters were assisted by the Milford Fire Department. Firefighters were on the scene about two hours.
