E’Burg Residents Approve Municipal Referendums

(Emmetsburg)– Voters in Emmetsburg have given the city a green light to pursue a municipal electric utility.

A special election was held Tuesday on the issue.

There were three items on the ballot: the first asked if authority should be granted for the city to establish a municipal electric utility. It passed 686 yes to 639 no.

The second measure asked if a municipal electric utility should be managed by the Emmetsburg Municipal Utilities Board of Trustees. That measure was also approved 649 yes to 613 no.

The third measure allows the board to be increased from three members to five. It also passed, 772 yes to 492 no.
