(Undated)– Severe thunderstorms, some packing damaging winds and large hail, roared through the area early this (Mon.) morning.
The Iowa Great Lakes was spared from any major damage, though.
Storms moved through in waves. The first hit the lakes area around 12:30 a.m.; the second around 3:00 a.m.
Numerous severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for Dickinson and neighboring counties. Power was also knocked out to some areas.
A storm spotter four miles west of Jackson, Minnesota reported an 88 mile-per-hour wind gust around 12:15 a.m.
Three-quarter inch hail was reported 10 miles west of Primghar and in Sioux Center around 2:30 a.m.
A 64 mile-per-hour wind gust was recorded by automated equipment in Spencer around 12:30 a.m.
In Worthington, Minnesota, winds gusting to 60 miles-per-hour knocked down tree limbs, and in some cases, uprooted entire trees on the city’s east side.
