(Des Moines)– Three northwest Iowa communities have been awarded Community Development Block Grants to improve housing and update sewer and water systems.
Emmetsburg will receive a 600-thousand dollar Community Facilities and Services Award to build a new water treatment plant; Ruthven is the recipient of a 458-thousand dollars Community Facilities and Services Award to improve its sanitary sewer lagoon; and Swea City received 271,200-dollars from the Owner Occupied Rehabilitation Program to help preserve and stabilize housing low and moderate income Iowans.
The Community Development Block Grant Program is a federally funded program for communities to improve their public health, safety and welfare. It’s managed by the Iowa Department of Economic Development.
