(Jackson, Mn.)– One person was injured in a Fourth-of-July boating accident on the west side of Fish Lake in Jackson county.
Authorities say a boat owned by Steven Norby and operated by 16-year-old Nicholas Honan struck 14-year-old Katie Lynn McKray. All three are from Windom. McKray was transported by ambulance to the Windom hospital and was later transferred to Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls with cuts to the back of her head and neck.
Witnesses say the boat being operated by Honan made a short turn toward some tubers that were being pulled. They say the boat slowed when a wave pushed it into the tube McKray was riding on.
Authorities were called to the scene around 8:35 p.m. Thursday.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office.
