Second Company Looks At Building A Wind Farm In Dickinson County

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Another company is looking at building a wind farm in Dickinson county.

Doug Jones of Spencer works for Zilkha Wind Energy. He was at Monday’s Dickinson County Board of Adjustment meeting requesting a conditional use permit for a research tower that’s been constructed east of Lake Park on Highway nine. The board approved the permit on the stipulation it be in effect five years.

Jones says if the data shows it’s feasible, Zilkha will build a 100 megawatt wind farm consisting of 67 turbines. He says it would represent a 100 million dollar investment. Jones says they’ve already been visiting with 25 landowners in Excelsior Township.

The Zilkha wind farm would be in addition to one being built by Clipper Wind Power…which announced a couple weeks ago it’s going to build 29 wind turbines in western Dickinson county.
