SL Council Considers Banning Vicious Animals From City

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The city of Spirit Lake may soon have an ordinance on the books banning ownership of vicious animals such as pittbulls.

City officials say someone in town recently adopted a bobcat as a pet. In addition to that, they say there are also three pittbulls in town.

Police Chief Jon Martyr told the council last week many towns in the area have already adopted similar ordinances.

A first draft of the proposed ordinance included rottweilers as a breed of dog that would not be allowed. After some discussion, the council decided to drop that breed.

The proposed ordinance is being rewritten and will be presented again at the next meeting July 23rd.
