Storm Lake’s Water Woes Ease

November 23, 2014

(Storm Lake)– Major industries in Storm Lake are back in operation today (Mon.) after being forced to shut down Friday due to problems at the water treatment plant.

City officials say the installation of a temporary filter at the treatment plant was successful…and there’s enough capacity to allow I-B-P, Bil-Mar and Tuscarora to resume operations.

The companies were forced to halt production last Friday after a second filter at the treatment plant quit working Thursday. It was the second filter to fail in less than a week.

Even though the plant is near normal capacity, Storm Lake officials say the situation is still critical. Residents and businesses are still being asked to conserve as much water as possible until permanent repairs are made. Those could take up to eight weeks to complete.

Commercial car washes have been allowed to re-open, but residential car washing is still banned in Storm Lake along with outdoor watering.
