(Storm Lake)– Charges have been filed against two 17 year-olds in connection with a bomb that exploded Thursday in a Storm Lake parking lot.
Justin Phillips of Storm Lake and Aaron Mendenhall of Newell have been charged with possession of an explosive device and possession of an offensive weapon. They’ve been transferred to the Youth Emergency Services (YES) Center in Cherokee.
No injuries were reported, but a vehicle that was parked nearby was damaged in the blast.
It took place near an office complex that houses a social security office and real estate business.
Authorities believe the explosion was meant as a prank, but an investigation continues.
