Severe Wind/Large Hail Causes Additional Damage

November 23, 2014

(Undated)– Another round of damaging winds blasted northwest Iowa Friday night.

Winds gusting from 50 to 70 miles-per-hour roared through between 10:15 and 11:30 p.m. causing even more damage to trees and power lines.

Structural damage was also reported in some areas. A horse barn was blown down near Gaza in O’Brien county; a barn was destroyed three miles south of Wallingford; and a roof was blown off a trailer house four miles south/southeast of Spencer. No injuries were reported.

The National Weather Service says the high winds were caused by a rare phenomena in which the jet stream was actually brought to the surface of the earth.
