(Spirit Lake)– Effective immediately, inmates at the Dickinson county jail can expect a bill for room and board when they get released.
The Board of Supervisors Tuesday voted unanimously in favor of a proposal by Sheriff Greg Baloun to charge a 20-dollar-a-night room and board fee. Baloun says it will help the jail meet the escalating costs of meals and supplies.
Baloun says the fees will be included in the sentencing process.
60 percent of the revenue generated from the fees can go toward purchases for the jail with the other 40 percent to the county’s general fund.
