(Okoboji)– The head of the Iowa Democratic party was in the Iowa Great Lakes Friday.
Doctor Sheila McGuire-Riggs was at Village East campaigning on behalf of U-S Senator Tom Harkin. McGuire-Riggs touted Harkin’s accomplishments for women’s health, siting a program he created that gives low-income women access to mammograms and pap smears; and for Harkin’s efforts in doubling funds for medical research, specifically that dealing with breast cancer.
McGuire-Riggs says this is a very important time for Iowa Democrats because for the first time in years they have an incumbent Governor and U-S Senator coming up for re-election at the same time.
She also feels Democrats stand to gain the most in the Iowa Legislature due to re-districting. McGuire-Riggs says she’s confident the party will regain the majority.
