(Spencer)– An ongoing drug investigation in Clay county has landed more people in jail.
According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy stopped a vehicle around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday on a gravel road northwest of Everly. Authorities became suspicious after talking to the driver. A search of the vehicle turned up items commonly used in clandestine methamphetamine laboratories. 46-year-old Carol Marie Walters of Spencer was arrested and charged with prohibited acts, conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, and possession of precursors for the manufactor of methamphetamine. Deputies on the scene determined there were atleast two other persons involved in an attempted theft of anhydrous ammonia and were out of the car. A search was conducted, but they weren’t immediately located.
Authorities say the traffic stop resulted in search warrants being obtained and executed on several residences in Clay county early Thursday. One of them took place at a residence owned by 34-year-old Joel Lee Storey of rural Spencer, who was arrested and charged with prohibited acts-conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine; possession of precursors of the manufacture of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Storey also faces firearms and Department of Natural Resources charges. He’s being held in the Clay county jail on bond of 42,575-dollars.
The second search was conducted on a rural Spencer residence owned by 29-year-old Jason Blake Storey and 33-year-old Tammy Louise McGrew, who were both arrested. Storey was charged with prohibited acts, conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine; and possession of drug paraphernalia. McGrew was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver methamphetamine, prohibited acts-conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine; and possession of drug paraphernalia. Each is being held in the Clay county jail on bond of 65,323-dollars. Storey and Mcgrew also face firearm charges.
A third search was executed on a residence in Spencer. It resulted in the arrests of three people. 21-year-old Jeremy Michael Walters and 22-year-old Benjamin McClaren were charged with possession of precursors for the manufacture of methamphetamine; possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine; and possession of drug paraphernalia. 59-year-old Michael Howard Walters was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Jeremy Walters and McClaren are being held in the Clay county jail on bond of 75,075-dollars; Michael Walters is being held on 6,500-dollars bond.
A fourth search was conducted on a residence owned by Benjamin McClaren in Fostoria. Authorities say it turned up a quantity of methamphetamine, resulting in an additional charge of controlled substance-methamphetamine being filed against McClaren.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says an investigation continues and more arrests and charges are likely.
