(Estherville)– A project of goodwill. That’s how Bill Baumgarner, C-E-O for Avera Holy Family Health, describes a recently completed addition to the hospital in Estherville.
Funding for the 8.25 million dollar project came from several sources. 2.3 million was raised by the community; a million dollars came from the Avera Health System with an additional million from Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center; and four million from Avera Holy Family operations.
Baumgarner says the new addition replaces a portion of the hospital that was built in the 1920’s. The 30-thousand square foot addition includes 19 medical/surgical in-patient beds…all of them private rooms; three special care units; a new child birth area; surgery suites; new same-day surgery units; and a new emergency department. It also includes a new energy plant.
Baumgarner says they’ll start moving into the new facility Monday, with the surgery unit being the first to relocate. He says all of the units should be in their new location by the first or second week of October.
A public open house of the new facility will be held this Sunday from Noon until 3:00 p.m.
