(Spirit Lake)– A Spirit Lake woman was seriously injured Wednesday in a two-vehicle accident on Highways nine and 71 in Spirit Lake.
Police say 88-year-old Evelyn Libby of Spirit Lake was westbound on Highways nine and 71 and was attempting to turn left into the Pizza Ranch parking lot while 42-year-old Kathy Gehring of Spirit Lake was eastbound when the two collided.
Libby was severely injured and was transported by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare. She was transferred by helicopter to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls with several broken bones and a possible fractured neck.
Gehring sustained minor injuries and was transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare by private vehicle. She was treated and released.
Extensive damage was reported to a 1992 Geo Prizm driven by Libby and to a 1996 Toyota Celica driven by Gehring.
