Dickinson County Kinship Receives Grant

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson County Kinship has been awarded a 77-thousand dollar grant through the U-S Department of Education. Kinship Director Michelle Hafer says the money will support mentoring programs.

Kinship is the local equivalent to the “Big Brothers, Big Sisters” program that matches children with adult mentors.

Hafer says the grant will make up about 70 percent of Kinship’s operating budget in the upcoming year, with the remaining 30 percent in the form of in-kind contributions.

She adds there’s still a need for adult volunteers has they have a waiting list of children.

Anyone interested in becoming a mentor should contact Hafer at 336-2535.
