Spirit Lake & Terril Schools Receive Federal Grants

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Two Dickinson county schools have been awarded construction and modernization grants through the federal government.

Among them is Spirit Lake, which will receive 953,709-dollars. Superintendent Tim Grieves says it will help defray the costs of remodeling the high school along with building additional classrooms at the middle school. He says the district will use the local option sales tax to fund the local portion of the matching grant.

The Terril School District will be getting 34,516-dollars through the same program. School officials say it will be used to correct safety defects at the Tech and K-12 buildings.

So far this year, 188 Iowa school districts have been awarded nearly 50 million dollars in federal grants to improve fire safety, school construction and modernization.
