(Undated)– Five northwest Iowa counties are among 18 in the state that have received a primary disaster designation.
Counties receiving the designation in our area include Clay, Dickinson, Lyon, O’Brien and Palo Alto. Counties contiguous to those are also eligible to apply for disaster assistance. In our area they include Buena Vista, Cherokee, Emmet, Kossuth, Osceola, Plymouth, Pocahontas and Sioux.
Dickinson County Farm Service Agency Director Larry Lago says producers in the affected counties can apply for emergency loans to help recover from production and physical losses. They are also eligible for the livestock compensation program for producers who sustained losses in livestock as a result of the adverse weather conditions.
Lago says a sign-up deadline hasn’t been announced yet for the programs, but he urges producers to stop by their local FSA office as soon as possible if they’re interested.
