(Spirit Lake)– This promises to be one of the coldest Halloweens in recent years. But even that won’t deter die-hard trick-or-treaters from hitting the streets. That has area authorities making their annual reminders about safety.
Spirit Lake Police Chief Jon Martyr says trick-or-treaters should dress warmly and make sure their costumes are light-colored or have some reflective material on them; that they carry a flashlight; and that they be accompanied by an older child or parent. He recommends children trick-or-treat in neighborhoods they’re familiar with; and that parents inspect candy before children consume it.
Martyr says the Spirit Lake Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies will have additional officers on duty.
