(Spirit Lake)– A malfunctioning furnace filled a Spirit Lake business with a burning odor and some smoke Thursday evening.
Spirit Lake Fire Chief Wally Jorgenson says firefighters were called to Lakes Television at 1717 Hill Avenue around 6:40 p.m. Jorgenson says the smoke was traced to the furnace area. Jorgenson says a mechanical problem caused the furnace to overheat…causing some insulation around some pipes to start smoking. Jorgenson says there was no actual fire and the building was quickly ventilated. He says it’s fortunate the situation was discovered when it was…or there probably would have been a full-fledged fire. A Lakes Television employee discovered the smoke and called authorities.
Spirit Lake firefighters were on the scene about a half-hour.
Jorgenson says it illustrates the importance of having your furnace inspected annually.
An accounting business owned by Ken Lockard is located in the same building.
