DNR Extends Comment Period On Ammonia/Hydrogen Sulfide Standards

November 23, 2014

(Des Moines)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is extending the public comment period on draft rules to establish ammonia and hydrogen sulfide air standards.

Bryan Bunton, an air specialist with the D-N-R, says the new deadline is January 6th, 2003. It had originally been scheduled to end early this month.

Citizens can comment in writing, by fax or e-mail. Another in a series of public meetings on the proposed standards is set for November 6th at the Davenport Public Library.

The standards will not only affect animal feeding operations, but other facilities emitting those compounds. The proposal also establishes an ambient air sampling manual containing monitor siting requirements, data handling procedures, approved monitoring methods and equipment and quality requirements for determining compliance.

The draft rules can be viewed at www.iowacleanair.com.
