Election To Be A Historical One For Dickinson County

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Today’s (Tues.) election in Dickinson county will be one for the local history books. For the first time ever, a five-member board of supervisors will be voted into office in Dickinson county. And some of the races are expected to be nail-biters.

In district one, Wayne Northey faces opposition from Pete Hodge.

There’s a three-way race for the district two seat featuring Democrat Mike Koppert, Marti Allen, a Republican; and Chris Hanson who’s running as an independent.

In district three, which includes the Milford area, David Gottsche is being challenged by Charles Gilbert. The hog lot issue is especially volatile in that district, where a Fairmont, Minnesota company wants to build a four thousand head hog confinment just southwest of Milford.

There’s a two-way race for the District four board of supervisor seat between Mike Wittrock, who’s ran in the past; and Paul Johnson.

And a race that promises to be especially interesting is in the fifth district…which includes most of the city of Spirit Lake. Four people are running for that seat. Spirit Lake City Councilman Pat McNorton, running as a Democrat; Pam Jordan, Republican; and Susan Clark and Terry Stammer…both independents.

The race for Dickinson County Attorney is also drawing a lot of attention. Incumbent Democrat Ned Bjornstad is being challenged by Republican Rosalise Olson.

KUOO will have live coverage of election results this evening with up-to-the-minute reports from the Dickinson and Clay County Auditor’s offices. Our coverage will begin at 9:00 p.m…when the polls close.
