(Heron Lake, Mn.)– One person was killed in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday in Jackson county.
The sheriff’s office says vehicles driven by 16-year-old Lacey Hayostek of rural St. James and Karen DeWall of rural Brewster collided on Jackson County Road 20 about a mile and-a-half east of Highway 60. It took place around 5:40 p.m.
A passenger in the vehicle driven by Hayostek was pronounced dead at the scene by rescue workers. The victim’s name is being witheld pending notification of relatives. Hayostek was taken by ambulance to Worthington Regional Hospital and was later transferred to McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls where she is listed in critical condition.
DeWall and her two grandchildren who were passengers, five month-old Haley DeWall and three-year-old Emma DeWall, were taken by ambulance to Worthington Regional Hospital. Kay DeWall was held for observation; the two children were treated and released.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Minnesota State Patrol, Heron Lake Police and Ambulance, Okabena Fire and Rescue, Lakefield Police Department and Ambulance, and the Worthington Ambulance Service.
Authorities say the crash remains under investigation.
