Spring Run Designated As Bird Conservation Area

November 23, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– A major portion of the Spring Run Wildlife Complex east of Arnolds Park was officially dedicated Tuesday as a Bird Conservation Area.

Doug Haar, State Program Coordinator of the D-N-R’s Wildlife Diversity Program, says the designation will assist efforts to protect endangered species of game, song and other upland species of birds. Haar says the designation should also hopefully make private landowners more eligible for federal conservation programs.

Haar says the non-game portion of the Wildlife Diversity Program will be getting some federal funding for a research program at Spring Run. He says it will be conducted by Iowa State University next year and will look at possible ways to improve the habitat for the various species of birds living there.
