Fire Destroys Sheldon Theatre/Restaurant

November 23, 2014

(Sheldon)– A fire Saturday destroyed a building in downtown Sheldon housing the Iowa Theatre and a Pizza Ranch Restaurant.

Firefighters from Sheldon and several neighboring towns were called to the scene around 7:00 a.m. Sheldon Fire Chief Jerry Meyer says the fire was fast burning. He says firefighters initially tried to battle it through two doors in an alley, but the fire was simply spreading too fast.

Firefighters were able to save a neighboring building housing a bakery, with some smoke and water damage reported to that business.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, which reduced the theatre and restaurant to a smoldering pile of rubble.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall’s office.
