Dickinson County Water Quality Commission Awards Grants (1)

(Arnolds Park)– 10 projects have been awarded funding through the latest round of grants from the Dickinson County Water Quality Commission.

A list of the projects and the amount of money they were awarded follows:

*$75,000 to the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation to help purchase an addition to the Spring Run Wetlands Complex

*$21,000 to the Dickinson County Soil and Water Conservation District to support a staff person for the Clean Water Alliance

*$20,750 to Iowa Lakeside Lab to support water monitoring programs

*$20,750 to Dickinson County Soil and Water Conservation District to finish conservation easements not completed from the Cleanwater Project.

*$9,000 to Dickinson County Conservation Board and Friends of Lakeside Lab to hire an intern to oversee the Iowater program

*$5,000 to Jackson County, Mn. Soil and Water Conservation District to support a staff person to oversee conservation practices in Iowa Great Lakes watersheds in Minnesota

*$5,000 to Dickinson county Soil and Water Conservation to reduce sediment and phosphorous from entering the lakes by altering tile intakes

*$2,500 to the Clean Water Alliance, Dickinson County Conservation Board and Friends of Lakeside Lab for professional development of cleanwater promotional materials

*$2,500 to Iowa Great Lakes Resource Conservation and Development to help promote phosphorous-free fertilizers around the lake;

*(carried over from 2003)$38,500 to Iowa Department of Natural Resources to pay half the DCWQC’s remaining pledge for the Southern Tall Grass Prairie Wetland Initiative. DCWQC funds will match the North American Wetland Conservation Act funds.

Funding from the DCWQC provided matching dollars for $1,348,650 in outside funding for the nine new projects. The DCWQC’s multi-year pledge of $100,000 to the Southern Tall Grass Prairie Wetland Initiative is being matched by more than 2.3 million dollars in state, federal and private funds.
