Spontaneous Combustion Sited As Cause Of Sheldon Fire

November 23, 2014

(Sheldon)– Investigators say spontaneous combustion was the cause of a fire Saturday that destroyed a building in downtown Sheldon that housed the Iowa Theatre, Pizza Ranch Restaurant and a video rental store.

The State Fire Marshall’s Office says some greasy rags in a bucket in the restaurant spontaneously combusted, and the blaze spread quickly from there. Authorities say the fire was accidental.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters from Sheldon and several neighboring communities were called to the scene around 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

An actual dollar amount on the loss hasn’t been determined yet as insurance adjustors are still making a determination.

It isn’t certain yet if the owners plan to re-build.
