Prosecution Rests In Donald Boss Murder Trial

November 23, 2014

(LeMars)– The prosecution rested its case Thursday in the Donald Boss murder trial in LeMars, but not before some more key witnesses took the stand.

Among them was a University of Iowa Pharmacy Professor, Doctor Paul Perry. He testified that Timothy Boss did NOT die of a drug overdose.

Also taking the stand was Doctor Dawnie Steadman, a forensic anthropologist. She told the court about several abnormalities she found while examining Timothy’s body. Doctor Steadman testified she found bruises to bones in the arms and skull, a fractured hand and chipped and fractured teeth. She suggested some of the injuries could have been caused by a blow to the face. Under cross-examination, the defense attempted to portray the injuries could have been self-inflicted, or were the result of some concrete being dropped on the boy as he was being buried beneath the floor of the family’s home in Remsen.

The state’s final witness was Doctor Dennis Klein, Iowa State Medical Examiner. He testified Timothy Boss’ death was caused by “homicidal violence”, but never disclosed an exact cause.

Testimony resumes Tuesday when the defense will call its first witness.

Judge James Scott told jurors they could get the case as early as next Friday. That’s much earlier than first thought. The trial was originally expected to last up to three weeks.
