Rock Valley Woman Admits She Killed Nursing Home Resident

November 23, 2014

(Rock Valley)– The Assistant Sioux County Attorney says the woman charged in the death of a Rock Valley nursing home patient admitted to investigators she deliberately killed the man.

Christine Lee Ann VanOort of Rock Valley was charged last week with first degree murder in the death last April of 87-year-old Dick Post, a resident of Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley.

Assistant County Attorney Coleman McAlister says VanOort made the admission in a statement to investigators.

Vern Carda, the nursing home’s administrator, says Post had Parkinson’s Disease, diabetes and high blood pressure. Carda says a routine investigation at the facility turned up nothing out of the ordinary.

But Carda says the nursing home was subpoenaed last month to come up with records about VanOort’s job performance and Post’s medical condition. He says he doesn’t know if he was surprised by the request, but says VanOort was a valued employee.

Rock Valley Mayor Kent Eknes says the news has the community reeling. He’s urging people not to rush to judgement.
