November 23, 2014

(Undated)– Some more northwest Iowa fire departments are getting grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Senator Chuck Grassley says slightly more than 800-thousand dollars has been awarded in the latest round of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

Locally, the Albert City Community Fire Department will receive almost 56-thousand dollars; the Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire Department will get almost 20-thousand; George will receive slightly more than 42-thousand dollars; the Marathon Fire Department will get 25-thousand; the Melvin Fire Department was awarded almost 31-thousand dollars; and Sioux Center Fire and Rescue will get 31,500-dollars.

Grassley says FEMA received more than 19,500 applications nationwide and is awarding 5,500 grants. The latest awards represent a 360 million dollar investment in the enhancement of local fire and emergency medical services.

This is the 11th round of Assistance to Firefighters Grants awarded this year.
