(Spencer)– A car-semi accident in Clay county has claimed the life of a Peterson man.
The sheriff’s office says a 1999 Peterbilt semi tractor/trailer driven by 42-year-old Randall Cantrell of Thayer, Missouri and a 1985 Oldsmobile driven by 50-year-old Danny Buettner of rural Peterson collided early this (Fri.) morning at the intersection of 435th Street and Highway 71 west of Greenville.
Authorities say Buettner was pronounced dead at the scene; Cantrell was taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
Deputies say the semi driven by Cantrell was northbound on Highway 71 as Buettner was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto 435th Street.
Five thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the tractor-trailer driven by Cantrell and owned by Dills Trucking, Incorporated of Thayer, Missouri. The car driven by Buettner was described as a total loss.
The mishap took place around 12:20 a.m.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol and the Greenville and Royal Rescue Units.
