(Spirit Lake)– No injuries were reported in a car/train collision Saturday in Spirit Lake.
Police say a 1999 Pontiac driven by 33-year-old Jason Murray of Spirit Lake collided with a northbound Iowa/Northwestern train at a crossing on 12th street.
Authorities say Murray collided with the lead car of the five-car train, which a locomotive was pushing from the rear. The train was travelling about eight to nine miles-per-hour when the collision occurred.
The mishap took place shortly before 6:00 p.m.
The crossing does not have warning lights or a cross-arm. It’s posted with a crossbuck and stopsign.
Murray was cited for failure to properly stop at a railroad crossing.
6,500-dollars in damage was estimated to the vehicle Murray was driving, with little or no damage to the train car.
