DNR Rejects Dickinson Co. Recommendation To Deny Hog Permit

November 23, 2014

(Des Moines)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has denied a recommendation from the Dickinson County Board of Supervisors that a construction permit awarded to Dutch Creek Farms for its Kaiser Production Site southwest of Milford be revoked.

The board of supervisors will meet at 11:00 a.m. Thursday to discuss the matter. They’ll consider appealing the decision to the D-N-R’s Environmental Protection Commission, which has the final say over such permits.

Dutch Creek Farms of Fairmont, Minnesota has started construction of a four-thousand head hog confinement in section 28 of Okoboji Township near Horseshoe Bend County Park. Construction has been temporarily halted since October pending the outcome of a hearing on a permanent injunction that’s been filed against the project in Dickinson county district court. That hearing has been postponed three times previously. It’s now set for January 21st.

The board of supervisors were notified of the DNR’s ruling through a letter they received Monday.
