Freezing Rain Causes Problems On Area Roads

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Rain early this (Saturday) morning has caused problems on area roads.

Actual air temperatures are hovering around 40 degrees, but the temperature of many road and street surfaces is below freezing…and that caused some of the rain to freeze on impact. The result in many cases was very slick roads and numerous accidents.

One of the more serious ones occurred east of Superior on Highway nine. Authorities say a semi tanker skidded off the road and went into the ditch. Some diesel was leaking from its fuel tank. The Superior Fire Department was called to help mop it up.

No injuries were reported.

The rain has since ended.
