Northwest Aging Braces For Possibility Of More Funding Cuts

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– A local organization that assists elderly residents is bracing for the possibility of even more cuts in state funding in the upcoming fiscal year.

Cynthia Beauman, Executive Director of the Northwest Aging Association, says cuts made in the current fiscal year have already resulted in major changes in how the agency provides services. And she says it’s making it even more important for the agency to receive local funding in order to match federal grants. To assist in that effort, Beauman says Northwest Aging has established a non-profit foundation, making it possible for people to make tax-deductible contributions.

Meanwhile, Beauman says Northwest Aging continues to heavily advocate for community and home-based services for the elderly. Beauman says that represents a significant savings in Medicaid money that would otherwise be spent on nursing homes or other assisted-living facilities.

Beauman made the comments at Tuesday’s Dickinson County Board of Supervisors meeting. The agency is requesting 10,912-dollars from the county in the upcoming fiscal year…the same as the current fiscal year.
