(Urbandale)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ Environmental Protection Commission has changed the date on a hearing it will hold on Dickinson county’s appeal of a permit granted for Dutch Creek Farms/Kaiser Production. The hearing is now set for Wednesday, January 22nd at 1:00 p.m. It had originally been scheduled for January 21st, when the committee will hold its regular monthly meeting.
The January 22nd hearing will be held at the D-N-R offices in Urbandale. Local officials had hoped to get the hearing moved to Dickinson county, but were unsuccessful.
The hearing is open to the public.
Wayne Gieselman, Division Administrator for Environmental Services at the D-N-R, says the county, Dutch Creek Farms and the D-N-R will have a half-hour each to make presentations to the commission. Gieselman says it’s not unusual for the commission to make a ruling the day of the hearing.
The Dickinson county board of supervisors learned in December the D-N-R was rejecting its recommendation the previously issued construction permit for Dutch Creek Farms be revoked. The company wants to build a four thousand head hog confinement in section 28 of Okoboji Township, near Horseshoe Bend County Park southwest of Milford. The supervisors voted four-to-one last week to appeal the decision to the E-P-C, which has the final say over such permits.
