(Spencer)– A waste oil burner is the probable cause of last weekend’s fire that destroyed an office and warehouse building at Vanderhaag Salvage in north Spencer.
Dave Schipper of the State Fire Marshall’s Office says the furnace was behind an ordering counter in the main office building. He says some debris in a tube that went up through the roof apparently got hot and ignited, starting some wooden walls in a second story loft on fire.
Schipper estimates the loss at one and-a-half million dollars.
Firefighters were still on the scene Monday putting out hot spots.
